years of building the web. 25 years of building the web.
I'm Thomas W. Dean III. I design and build websites for companies that care about craft. Flat-file CMSs, custom Laravel, considered typography, motion that earns its keep.
Twenty-five years on the web.
My IT career started before the web did, wrangling networks and servers on the back end of small businesses. Then in 2001, I built my first website: table layouts, sliced PSDs, Flash sites that took 90 seconds to load. The technology has changed every six months since. The question hasn't: what does this site need to do, who is it for, and how do we make it feel like itself?
D3 is me, Thomas W. Dean III. The "D3" is exactly that: Dean cubed, the third one. I design, write, and ship websites for companies that take their craft seriously and want their site to do the same.
I live with Statamic, Laravel, Tailwind, and my dog PP. I write the code I show you. I draw the type I show you. If you want a studio with a project manager and a Slack channel of subcontractors, I am not that. If you want one experienced person who'll make your site quietly excellent, hi.
Seven things I'm good at.
Not "full-service agency" things. Specific, considered, hands-on craft. I write the code, draw the type, and meet the deadline.
-
Technical Consulting
Stack audits, architecture reviews, performance work, and senior-pair guidance for teams that picked their tools but want a steady hand on the project.
-
Web Design
Editorial-grade interfaces with type that reads like a magazine and color that knows where it's going. Wireframes, design systems, and component libraries you can actually build from.
-
Web Development
Laravel, Statamic, vanilla JS. Fast, accessible, and thought-through. Custom builds that hold up under real traffic.
-
Search Engine Optimization
Technical SEO grounded in real performance work. Core Web Vitals, structured data, search-intent content, and on-page wiring that compounds over time.
-
Online Marketing
SEO, paid media, email, analytics — connected to the site, not bolted on. Strategy you can actually measure, not vibes and dashboards.
-
E-commerce
Storefronts that don't look like everyone else's. Statamic + Snipcart, custom Laravel, or whatever the project actually needs.
-
Branding
Wordmarks, logo systems, and the typographic discipline that ties them together.
A few projects worth showing.
Three case studies. Click into any of them to see process, decisions, and outcomes.
Notes from my messy desk.

Three layers of CSS to hide a 2-pixel iOS Safari bug
The dark-mode reCAPTCHA looked correct everywhere except iOS Safari, where a thin bright edge framed the iframe. The fix was not one CSS rule. It was three, stacked.

Why I built this site on Statamic instead of WordPress
WordPress is the obvious answer when someone says they need a website. I picked Statamic. Here is the case for it, where it loses, and who should still pick WordPress.

My silly little dark mode toggle
A dark-mode switch should be one checkbox. I built one with eight clouds, three twinkling stars, a sliding sun-and-moon thumb, and a mask gradient to keep the clouds from popping. Here is why.
